Getting There By Water

Boats and hydrofoils on the Danube connect Budapest with domestic and international destinations. Hydrofoils arrive at the International Terminal, Belgrád rakpart, adjacent to the Admiral Restaurant, near Szabadság híd. The only facility that is available here is a café. Domestic arrivals are at the Vigadó Terminal, north of Erzsébet híd.

For information, visitors should contact MAHART (tel: (01) 484 4027; fax: (01) 266 4672; e-mail: tours@maharttours.hu; website: www.mahartpassnave.hu) in the International Boat Station, V Belgrád rakpart.

Ferry services: Between April and early November, MAHART operates a Monday-Saturday hydrofoil service linking Vienna to Budapest via Bratislava. The journey costs approximately €65 (Ft14,433) single and €89 (Ft21,771) return, travelling from Vienna, along the River Danube, to the heart of Budapest (journey time – 5 hours 30 minutes). Prices from Bratislava are €6 (Ft1450) less and concessions are available. A maximum limit of 20kg (44lbs) of luggage may be carried free of charge.

Transport to the city: Passengers arriving by boat are advised to reserve a taxi through the shipping line, as none are readily available on the dock. The nearest metro to the International Terminal, on Belgrád rakpart, is Ferenciek tere (the M3 blue line), which is a fair distance away.
